Annual Report Support Foundation St. Andrew’s Biblical Theological Institute 2013

 

Introduction

A support foundation has a clear aim: give support. That’s what we have done in the year 2013 toward St. Andrew’s Biblical Theological Institute in Moscow. Support has many forms. An important one is to be in contact with key-persons which do the actual work. In this paper we give a short report about our activities and work in the year 2013.

Board and Board meetings

The composition of the Board has not changed in the year 2013. At the end of the year the following persons were members of the Board:

Mr. Wolfgang Lenz (Solingen, Germany) – chairman;

Mr. Jaap van der Sar (Wageningen, Netherlands) – secretary;

Mr. Fred Bogaards (Wageningen, Netherlands) – treasurer.

 

Mr. Alexei Bodrov, rector of St. Andrew’s Biblical Theological Institute, is advisor of the Board.

 

The members of the Board don’t receive any compensation for their work; they are committed to the work, which they all do on a voluntary basis. In general costs are covered by themselves.

 

In 2013 the Board met once in person; at that meeting also our advisor was present. Furtheron the members of the Board discussed about many aspects of the work through phone, Skype, e-mail and in bi-lateral meetings. In the same way the contacts with the advisor took place.

The Board considers the way it has worked as effective and efficient.

Support

In 2013 the expression of our support was positively challenged by the opportunity to prepare an appointment of the Rector of St. Andrew’s Biblical Theological Institute as a staff member of one of the Protestant Academies in Germany. By the time of writing this report (February 2014) it appears that final decisions are almost done – in a positive way. This provides an opportunity to increase the effectiveness of the Institute through the intensification of international contacts, through conferences and publications. Although most of the work of the Institute is done and supported within and through sources in the home country, work outside the home country needs some support, which is partly given by our Support Foundation.

As a Support Foundation we are proud that we have been able to support the work of St. Andrew’s throughout some years. The Annual Report of St. Andrew’s, attached to this report, indicates the factual work.

 

The work of the Support Foundation, also regarding the spending of the money, dealt with the work outside the home country. The upcoming appointment in Germany is an expression of that.

We would like to thank our donors as well as individuals, which have supported us in our work. We think about contacts at the Free University in Amsterdam (NL), at the office of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands, colleagues at the Protestant Academy in Landau (G) as well as donors which supported our Foundation in the last year

 

Developments

As indicated before, the Board is actively involved with exploring the option for an appointment of the rector of St. Andrew’s at one of the Protestant Academies in Germany. This required some careful planning of the financial possibilities, which are in the reach of our foundation. We very much hope that this opportunity will be realised soon. We consider this appointment as a valuable contribution to the dialogue between the institute, coming with an orthodox background, and institutes in the non-orthodox ecumenical field in Europe. We hope to continue this valuable work.
